Academic Policies:
Classroom Procedures
Entering the classroom and getting to work:
1. As a courtesy, please leave the room in better shape than you found it (i.e. pick up your trash, straighten chairs, put books away, etc.).
2. The bell does not dismiss class. The teacher will dismiss class when all are seated and ready. Students will not begin to pack up or stand in front of my door waiting for the bell to ring.
Absences and Make-up Work:
1. Attendance is vital to your success in any class.
2. Make-up work is your responsibility. If you know of an upcoming absence, please inform the teacher ahead of time (before or after class only).
3. Make-up Work will be placed in the make-up bin located in the student center.
4. When missed assignments are picked up from the make-up bin, the student must sign and date the sign out sheet signifying that they received the work.
5. DO NOT ask for make-up work during the period. All questions in regards to make-up work or missed lessons are to be addressed either before or after class.
6. All missed work must be made up within 3 school days.
Extra Help:
Tutoring is available before school or during lunch. Please make prior arrangements so I will be in the classroom.
Rebound:
No rebound will be offered in this course. Students must take responsibility and prepare for the test.
Hall Passes:
1. You should have your Student Agenda to have the privilege of leaving the classroom. Borrowing a friend’s Student Agenda is not acceptable. Please be sure to have it filled out for my initials.
2. Please wait until an appropriate time in the class period to ask permission to leave. Appropriate would exclude the first 20 minutes or last 20 minutes of class, while I am speaking, or in the middle of a class discussion.
3. Hall passes are a privilege, not a right.
Asking a Question/Commenting in Group Discussions:
So that all students’ comments may be heard, students should raise their hand to ask a question or make a statement.
Classroom Behavior:
By this time in your academic career, students should have developed the ability to self-monitor and control their action to a large extent, and will be expected to do so in this class. Therefore, in addition to the district and building rules outlined in the Student Handbook, there are four main class rules:
· Be Polite
· Be Prepared
· Be Positive
· Be Punctual
In addition to these rules there is one that goes without saying, respect the teacher. This means you should follow directions when given, do not speak when I am speaking, and do your very best in my class.
Consequences:
· 1st Offense: Warning – Verbal
· 2nd Offense: Phone Call or letter to parent or guardian
· 3rd Offense: Guidance Referral
· 4th Offense: Write up.
**Depending on the severity of the disruption, I reserve the right to skip directly to sending the student to the office with a write up.**
